St. Bede the Venerable Church in La Canada has employed Dr. Lupica, as Music Director, since 1981. At St. Bede, Dr. Lupica conducts two choirs, one contemporary and one traditional, and during his tenure he has established a significant concert program that brings great quality music from the prodigious history of sacred music to the St. Bede community, but also to the surrounding communities at large. He is most proud of the collaboration that he has instituted among the St. Bede choirs and those of ELAC. During these joint concerts with participants totaling over 120, the ELAC choir members are given the privilege of performing with, and learning from, world-class musicians. In turn, the St. Bede choir members benefit from their association with students who bring great energy and passion to the performances.
Throughout his career Dr. Lupica has studied and worked with many conductors, including, Pierre Boulez, Michael Tilson Thomas, Daniel Barenboim, Jorge Mester, Helmuth Rilling, Hans Beer, Dr. William Dehning, Dr. James Vail, Dr. David Wilson, Eph Ehly, Paul Salamunovich, Robert Hickock, and Anne Howard Jones.
