Welcome to the English Department

Completing English 101 Successfully

We offer a variety of options for students to complete English 101 whether your goal is to transfer to a 4-year university or to complete an AA Degree or skills certificate.  We offer several modalities such as asynchronous (with no live meetings), synchronous (with scheduled online zoom meetings) and hybrid (both in person meetings and online).  English 101 (UC and CSU transferable): All new students are eligible to take English 101 (3 units) without a placement test.

If you feel you need to complete English 101 but need additional support, here are some options from which to choose:

English 101Z (UC and CSU transferable): If your High School G.P.A was 1.9 or below, or if you would like additional support, take English 101Z (4 units), which includes extra support during and after class.

E.S.L. 110 (UC and CSU transferable): If English is your second language (4 units) , which includes specialized instruction for speakers of other languages.
