K-12 Student Registration

Registration steps depend on how K-12 students wish to experience a college course. The following information serves as a general guide. Please note that K-8 students may be required to submit additional documents (please contact the Admissions & Records Office for details).

Option A - General Process

K-12 student takes a college course along with the general population (students of all ages). Students may choose from the wide variety of courses listed in the Schedule of Classes. Please note that all students will need to purchase a textbook and/or materials, if required by their professor.

  1. Admissions Application – Student needs to Apply to ELAC. Student will receive an acceptance email within 24 hours, which will include their ELAC Student ID # (ex: 901234567).
  2. Obtain Consent – Student needs to submit a K-12 Form to the Admissions & Records Office. Permission from parent/legal guardian and school counselor/principal is required before taking a college class. K-12 Forms may also be submitted electronically by using Dynamic Forms (all parties must have a Dynamic Forms account in order to sign). Please note that a K-12 Form does not enroll a student into a course.
  3. Enroll in a Class – Student registers for a class through their Student Portal. Registration assistance is available at the Welcome Center, if needed. Enrolling in a class can only be done after a K-12 Form (or Dynamic Form) has been processed by the Admissions & Records Office. Students are responsible for knowing important course dates, such as add/drop deadlines.

K-12 students who need help with the general process may contact the Admissions & Records Office and/or the Welcome Center for support.

Option B - Early College Program

Dual Enrollment at ELAC is known as the Early College Program (ECP). The Outreach Team works with local K-12 school partners to reserve college classes only for their students. In most cases, ECP classes are taught at their school site (after school). Class options are limited and vary by school site. Textbooks and materials are provided with each ECP class.

  1. Admissions Application – Student needs to Apply to ELAC. Within 24 hours, student will receive an acceptance email which includes their ELAC Student ID # (ex: 901234567).
  2. Obtain Consent – Student needs to submit a K-12 Form to the Outreach Team. Permission from parent/legal guardian and school counselor/principal is required before taking a college class. K-12 Forms may also be submitted electronically by using Dynamic Forms (all parties must have a Dynamic Forms account in order to sign). Please note that a K-12 Form alone does not enroll a student into a course.
  3. Commitment Form - Student needs to fill out a Commitment Form. Part of this special opportunity includes students devoting time and effort to their college class. Student also acknowledges their responsibilities, such as being aware of important course dates (e.g., start date, end date, and/or drop deadlines).

The Outreach Team will successfully enroll the student into their respective ECP class once the steps are completed. A confirmation email and welcome message will be sent to the student at a later time. Missing one or more of the steps will prevent the student from being successfully enrolled.

Students who are interested in college classes through the Early College Program are encouraged to speak to their school counselor, as a partnership may already exist. Students may also connect with the Outreach Team during the Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions.
