Mathematics is one of the primary tools used to describe the world and make sense out of its various parts. Most of the incredible achievements of our society in the 20th century were facilitated by our understanding of mathematics and its ability to be applied to many different situations from computers and rockets to skyscrapers and credit cards. Mathematics is also a necessary tool for scientific research, actuarial science , medical testing such as MRI and CAT scans, business planning, construction, finances, aviation, electronics, engineering and many other areas of practical importance too numerous to mention. At ELAC you will have the opportunity to acquire a solid base in mathematics to fit your needs and enable you to successfully pursue the career of your dreams.

Starting Fall 2025, the following courses will be renamed using Common Course Numbering (CNN)
CNN is designed to align course numbering across California Community Colleges by assigning the same course number to a selection of similar courses. This will make transferring easier. Statewide courses with CNN do not carry identical GE or transfer major articulation approvals. Please check with a counselor.
