Most of the incredible achievements of our society in the 20th century were facilitated by our understanding of mathematics and its ability to be applied to many different situations from computers and rockets to skyscrapers and credit cards. Mathematics is also a necessary tool for scientific research, actuarial science , medical testing such as MRI and CAT scans, business planning, construction, finances, aviation, electronics, engineering and many other areas of practical importance too numerous to mention.
