MONTEREY PARK, CA – East Los Angeles College has been named a 2022 Champion of Higher Education and a 2022 Equity Champion of Higher Education, recognizing the campus’ exemplary work in implementing the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT)! East Los Angeles College is being recognized as a top performer in the following categories:
- Champion of Higher Education - Total Associate Degrees for Transfer Awarded, reflecting the number of ADTs awarded during the 2020–21 academic year
- Equity Champion for Latinx Students - supporting at least 65% of Latinx associate-degree earners on your campus to earn an ADT, as well as supporting these students to perform as well or better in this metric compared to the student body.
The ADT provides a streamlined pathway between the California Community Colleges and the California State University (CSU) system. Compared to a traditional transfer student, ADT transfers earn their bachelor’s degree nearly twice as fast from a CSU. ELAC has been awarded a Champion of Higher Education for ADT the last 3 years and awarded 1,900 Associate Degrees for Transfer in the 2020-2021 academic year. This is 1,030 more than the total ADTs awarded in the 2017-2018 academic year.
“East Los Angeles College continues to be a leader in ADTs because we recognize that ADTs allow our students to fulfill transfer requirements and earn their bachelor's degree much quicker once transferred to a CSU. Thank you to our Husky faculty and staff for making this great accomplishment a reality for our college,” said ELAC President Alberto J. Roman.
The Campaign for College Opportunity will be recognizing ELAC during a virtual event on November 1st, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. The virtual celebration will bring together approximately 200-400 attendees representing California’s higher education leadership, elected officials, corporate sponsors, and civic and business leaders.
