Marshal Instructions

(for Graduation Ceremony on June 10, 2025)


We are seeking faculty members to volunteer as Graduation Marshals. If you are willing to contribute your time and support to this important occasion, kindly email Professor Bob Khollesi at @email by May 2, 2025. Eight hours of Flex credit will be reported. In your email, please include your full name and discipline (e.g., Jane Doe, Ph.D. – Biology).


General Assignments

Overview

  • Marshals are responsible for overseeing the graduation lineup and ensuring a timely and orderly procession and seating of both faculty and students.
  • Dress Code: Marshals must wear academic regalia and comfortable shoes, as they will be on their feet throughout the day.
  • Requirements: A minimum of 16 marshals are needed for the event.

Line-Up Responsibilities

  • Two marshals will lead faculty into the stadium.
  • Two marshals will lead students into the stadium.
  • Ten marshals will monitor students' pace and organization.
  • Two marshals will bring up the rear of the procession.
  • Marshals will ensure students maintain straight lines during the procession.

Rehearsal

10:00am

  • Location: Fire Lane between E7 & E9.
  • Attendance is mandatory for the briefing and planning meeting to coordinate student flow.
  • Marshals must attend the rehearsal to understand their roles and be prepared to address any questions or concerns from faculty or students.
  • Enjoy lunch at the end of rehearsal in F5-209 (around 12:30pm).

Faculty and Staff Reception

2:00pm

  • Location: F5-201 Multi-Purpose Room

Student Line-Up

2:30pm

  • Location: Fire Lane between E7 & E9.

Faculty Line-Up

3:30pm

  • Location: Behind E7 (Technology building), extending down the fire lane.

Procession

  • Marshals should arrive by 3:00 PM to organize students. Faculty will arrive around 3:30 PM after the Faculty Reception.
  • Leading the Procession: Marshals will begin leading faculty and students into the stadium at 3:50 PM.
  • Safety Reminders: Students wearing high heels or stilettos should be reminded to exercise caution around grates in the tunnel and on stairs.
  • Assistance: Marshals will assist any faculty or students with mobility issues to find suitable seating.
  • Seating Protocol: Ensure all seats are filled before allowing students or faculty to move to the next row.
  • Tassel Placement: Instruct students to place their tassels on the right side until directed to switch during the ceremony.
  • Attendee Needs: Marshals will attend to the comfort and needs of faculty and students throughout the event.
  • Ceremony Etiquette: Remind students not to leave the ceremony early to foster unity among all attendees.
  • Orderly Exit: Help students exit the ceremony in an organized manner.
