The ELAC Psychology & Addiction Studies Department offers a variety of degree and certificate options, preparing students for transfer in Psychology and/or for a career in the field of Addiction Studies.
Prevention Specialist, Recovery Specialist, Substance Abuse Assessor ($19 – 25 per hour): The ELAC Addiction Studies program offers skills certificates, preparing students for careers such as Prevention Specialist, Recovery Specialist or a Substance Abuse Assessor. We also offer a Certificate of Achievement as an Addiction Counselor for students who are employed, or seeking employment, in public and private agencies that serve clients with alcohol and drug issues. All these careers provide a great opportunity for career growth.
AA in Psychology for Transfer ($61,753 per year after completion of BA in Psychology): The ELAC Psychology Department offers an Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer (AA-T) for those seeking to transfer to a local Cal State University (CSU) and complete a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Completion of the Psychology for Transfer degree guarantees admission to the CSU system in the psychology major or a reasonably related major. Students seeking to transfer to a non-CSU four-year institution should follow the IGETC pattern. Completion of BA in Psychology can lead to careers such in Human Resources and Organizational Management, Mental Health Therapy, Counseling, and Social Work.

The East Los Angeles College Psychology Department prepares students for transfer and future careers in the fields of Psychology and Addiction Studies. Our program is research driven and emphasizes critical thinking in the study of human behavior and experience.
