Architecture at ELAC

Learn More About Architecture

Succeed@ELAC

Have you always enjoyed designing and expressing your creativity? Consider architecture, a profession where you can create beautiful and functional buildings, interiors and landscapes as well as earn a respectable income. ELAC students develop and gain skills and learn to use tools to generate drawing and construction documents. Students create realistic 3-dimensional models to demonstrate their knowledge of design. ELAC has the latest computer-aided design software and systems so students can conceptualize directly on the computer, visualize projects before they are built, produce digital portfolios and publish on the Internet. The ELAC Department of Architecture provides a creative, dynamic setting where each individual can realize their full potential.

The Department of Architecture is staffed with experienced, licensed architects, designers, artists, interior designers, general contractors, engineers and computer experts. Many still practice in the field and students benefit from a wealth of experience in the real world. Faculty members counsel each student personally so they complete the program efficiently. Students go directly into the profession or transfer to a university degree program.

Classrooms are spacious and equipped with modern equipment and computer systems. A complete model construction lab and computer center provides state-of-the-art tools for each student. Computer software includes the latest releases of AutoCAD, 3D Studio VIZ, MAX, form Z, Lightscape, SketchUp, Revit, Photoshop and other essential programs that allow students to create professional portfolios and resumes critical to transferring to universities or getting a job. Many ELAC architectural students work in the profession while completing their education, learning while they are earning.

An ELAC Associates Degree and completion of lower division university academic requirements prepares graduates to transfer to a university. Our graduates are then ready to enter the third year of a university program in architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, interior design and environmental design. Current articulation agreements for third year transfer are available from Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and Woodbury University. Numerous graduates transfer into the second year at the USC, Cal Poly Pomona, UC Berkeley and UCLA. The ELAC Department of Architecture has one of the highest university transfer rates in California.

Architecture faculty members have vital connections with numerous professional associations and the construction industry, which provide valuable assistance to our students while they attend college and seek employment. Certificate and Associate degrees are offered in Architectural Drafting and Architectural Computer Aided Design preparing graduates for jobs in architecture, engineering, construction and other related businesses as well as in government and military service.
