The Health/Service Careers Foundational Skill Certificate prepares students with entry level skills and competencies needed for employment opportunities within the healthcare and social service industry. Topics focus on competencies required of healthcare and social service providers, such as HIPAA, Professionalism/Ethics, Diversity/Cultural Awareness, Teamwork, Collaboration, Conflict Resolution, Customer Service, Safe Practice/Infection Control, Medical Terminology, and First Aid. Completion of this skills certificate provides the first step in making an informed decision regarding the selection of additional programs of study leading to healthcare and service careers.
This course is an introduction of the concepts and skills that serve as a foundation for the health care professions. Topics include hygiene and safety, infection control, basic client monitoring and basic first aid, therapeutic communication and basic health documentation.
This basic medical language course will discuss common diseases and injuries and their pharmacological treatment using medical terminology in English and Spanish, when appropriate.
This course provides an overview of the concepts of health and illness, cultural diversity and legal issues that affect the health care professional.
