Welcome to the Foreign Languages Department!
Our department offers a variety of courses that will not only prepare students to transfer to a 4-year university, but also hone their language skills for better job placement, and/or to simply take on the personal challenge of becoming more fully bilingual or multilingual. Majoring or minoring in a foreign language can open doors in the areas of education, business, government, tourism, health care, among other areas requiring a bilingual work force.
Our department offers six languages: American Sign Language (ASL), Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Spanish offers a dual track, one for non-native speakers of the language, the other for those students growing up in a Spanish-speaking environment but who have never studied it. We offer a broad range of language and culture courses, several of which are offered in a hybrid online format or during the short-term session. Most of our courses are CSU and UC transferable.
We also have several active language clubs: ASL, French, Japanese, and Spanish! Join any one of these, even if you are not taking a language course.
We are excited to offer the unique opportunity to study abroad in 3 areas of the globe: Paris, France, Kyoto, Japan, and Salamanca, Spain. Go to the tab on the navigation bar on the left-hand side of this webpage for more information, including how you can use financial aid and fee waivers to fund these programs. The earlier you prepare for this opportunity, the better off you will be!
We hope you explore the various tabs and links on this website so you can have a better idea of how our department can meet your academic and vocational needs.
