President's Messages: Ernest H. Moreno

East Los Angeles College's motto of START HERE AND GO ANYWHERE has never been more appropriate. With the strong support of our community, ELAC has established itself as the choice of those who wish to fulfill their educational dreams. With focus and dedication, ELAC has clearly shown that it is the college of choice for community members in the Los Angeles area and the San Gabriel Valley. This Schedule of Classes demonstrates our commitment to providing you with a wealth of choices to further your educational goals. You might pay particular attention to the fact that we have expanded popular course offerings and scheduled classes at times most requested by students. Every segment of the college is attuned to your goals of academic achievement. Our singular goal is to provide an environment that will be your GATEWAY to the future.

One major focus of the college is to help you remove educational barriers to your success. If you provide the goal and the commitment, we will make sure that you are able to walk through our GATEWAY and into your future. Our faculty and staff are ready to assist you with financial aid problems, transfer requirements or tutorial needs. Make use of all of these services. We have established a "transfer/graduation culture" on campus. You are the center of this "culture" so set your educational path and use college services to help you along the way.

You are in the midst of great changes in your life. East Los Angeles College will be the conduit of that change. You make choices and we facilitate those choices. In addition, as you have noticed, there are many changes taking place around you. In 2001/02 Propositions A/AA were passed by voters in our community. Their purpose was to provide funding for the construction and upgrading of campus facilities to provide a 21st century college for our student population. Today, much progress has been accomplished and we thank you for your support and patience.

Some changes to the face of our college include: Last spring we began construction on our much needed multi-level parking structure and we opened new bungalows to expand offerings while permanent structures are being built. We broke ground on our Performing and Fine Arts Complex and East can now claim to be the most GREEN college in our district. We now can draw electricity from our own solar power plant.

In addition to attempting to relieve the congestion on campus, we are committed to reaching into our community to bring education where it is needed. As a result of this philosophy we will be expanding our South Gate Educational Center soon and we invite all students to visit our Rosemead Educational Center. We have developed a complete array of classes at this location in excellent facilities with ample parking.

Whether you are a returning student or new to our campus, welcome! You are now part of the East Los Angeles College family so remember that we are here to serve you.

Sincerely,

President, East Los Angeles College

Ernest H. Moreno
