Adelante First-Year Experience
What is Adelante?
Adelante First-Year Program is dedicated to the academic success of first-year scholars at ELAC by improving scholar preparation and retention. FYE guarantees enrollment into highly impacted English and Math courses. In doing so, Adelante FYE prepares and assists scholars (Adelanteros) in their transition into higher education after graduating from high school or returning to college.
Adelante FYE supports scholars from varying backgrounds, including scholars who are parents, scholars who have been away from higher education, and scholars who have recently graduated from high school. Adelante FYE is fully committed to the successful transition and completion of our scholars’ first year at ELAC and adapting a college-going mind-set by providing stimulating learning environments.

Benefits of Joining FYE:
Adelante FYE offers courses to scholars who are ready to continue their educational goals and aspirations. At ELAC, Adelante FYE offers classes as a cohort model.
As participants, FYE scholars are assessed into one of our cohorts. Scholars have the opportunity to participate in two classes: English or Math with a paired course.
Throughout the scholars’ year commitment with Adelante FYE, they will learn and develop self-advocacy skills, build a transfer identity, and pursue a college-going mindset.
Adelante FYE scholars have full support from our dedicated and empowering team. The FYE team includes staff and professors who are equipped to fully guide FYE scholars to reach their academic potential.
A scholars potential is facilitated by our dedicated team by hosting workshops, dialogue (platicas), mentorship, counseling and educational trips to universities.
