English as a Second Language
The ESL program at East LA College offers credit courses designed for students whose primary language is not English. These classes prepare students in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and vocabulary skills necessary for success at the college level. We offer six-unit A classes (3A, 4A, 5A, 6A), which focus on writing, grammar, and reading; three-unit B classes (3B, 4B, 5B, 6B) for reading and vocabulary skills; and three-unit C classes (3C ,4C, 5C, 6C), emphasizing speaking and listening skills necessary for conversation and oral communication at the college level. In addition, we also offer English 96, a one-unit business English class. Our aim is to help students from diverse language and cultural backgrounds achieve their academic and career goals by giving them a solid foundation in academic English skills.
