ELAC Student Services Newsletter
Posted: Apr/15/2020 1:46 PMHello again Husky,
First, we want to express our hope that you, your family, your loved ones, and your friends all are safe, healthy, and well. As the numbers of COVID-19 cases steeply increases, nationally, and globally, we worry about the members of our community, and how they are coping as well with the many restrictions in place to help battle the infection. You are in our thoughts, and we very greatly respect your resiliency and your adherence to those measures that keep us all safe.
This crisis has definitely challenged our coping skills. We had thought that we would be back in a month. As we see, every community is susceptible to the reach of COVID-19 and we are all in this together to ensure we are keeping safe.
Please remember that the health services are still active as identified in Health Resources section below. If you feel that you have been exposed, please call 211 to schedule an appointment for a drive through testing. East LA College is now a testing site, but you must call 211 for an appointment as you may have one that is closer to our home. You can also contact Dignity Health for a virtual assessment 24/7, You Enter code COVID19 for a free 24/7 virtual visit if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms of a low-grade fever (100.4 or above), cough, or shortness of breath.
Also, all of our services are being offered remotely such as online counseling, tutoring, financial aid, admissions, and our specialized programs. We would like to keep in touch with our student community and therefore are having a Zoom Webinar on Thursday, April 16th at 12:00 p.m. and then again at 6 p.m. Some of our programs will be providing updates and we will be taking questions. On that day whatever questions, we receive we will do our best to answer them in the Chat Box and any leftover questions will be put into an FAQ list that we will later post answers on our website.

While you have time, keep in mind that the Fight for a Fair Count – Keeping the 2020 Census on Track Initiative is still on. Your voice matters and we hope that you will join the effort to be counted. Critical dollars for community and social services are at stake and we don’t want our communities to not be heard.
Our Student Life has been working with NALEO and they are looking for volunteers to get the word out for the Census. Please contact Frank Lozano at lozanof@elac.edu if you would like to volunteer.
Students please regularly check your SIS portal and college/district email so as not to miss important information on updates, financial aid, emergency assistance.
East LA College, ELAC Foundation, and the LACCD Foundation are working to elicit more funds to purchase laptops and food cards, but the demand is higher than what we have. We have started a GO Fund Me at https://www.gofundme.com/f/east-la-college-student-emergency-support?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link-tip&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet Please pass the word. I want to thank all the students, staff, faculty and community supporters who quickly leapt into action to go remote, expressed concern, offered helpful ideas and continue providing vital support.
