ELAC Alumni Association Honors 1974 Championship Football Team
The East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Alumni Association honored the 1974 Championship Football team during the September 28 Football game between East Los Angeles College and Mt. San Antonio College.
Head Football Coach and legendary community member, Al Padilla, led the 1974 team, which included former NFL running back Lynn Cain and current ELAC Wrestling Coach Ralph Valle. The team went undefeated that season and won the first California State Junior College (JC) Football Championship in ELAC history. Coach Padilla was named California Coach of the Year for that season and would continue to coach the Huskies for many years after.
The 1974 team was honored during halftime and was presented with a signed football helmet and championship rings by ELAC Interim President Dr. Raúl Rodríguez. There was also a VIP meet and greet with the team before and during the game in the ELAC Garden above the field.
The ELAC Alumni Association provided free admission to all ELAC students with a 2019 ASU membership as well as a free hotdog and drink. This deal was also extended to students from local high schools.
The ELAC Football team lost 21-16 to Mt. San Antonio College, and that puts their record at 2-2. They will now travel to Southwestern College (3-1) in Chula Vista Saturday October 5 at 6pm.
