8 ELAC Students Announced as Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Semifinalists
On January 22, 2019, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation announced the semifinalists for its prestigious Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This scholarship helps extraordinary community college students as they transfer to four-year universities to complete their bachelor’s degrees.
Cooke Transfer Scholars are selected based on exceptional academic ability and achievement, financial need, persistence, service to others, and leadership. This year’s semifinalists were chosen from a pool of nearly 1,500 applicants attending 369 schools in 45 states and the District of Columbia. ELAC produced the second highest number of semifinalists for the state of California.
“I am proud of all of our semifinalists and the hard work they have done while at ELAC. Our college is committed to preparing students to excel in their studies and transfer to top 4-year universities, and these semifinalists are a reflection of that,” said Marvin Martinez, President of East Los Angeles College.
