We hoped you found the newsletter helpful as it has a multitude of resources. It can be found on the front page of our newsletter. Please remember to check your Student Information System (SIS) portal. You can apply for laptop and food cards through your portal. Remember to go back and check for the status of any scholarships or awards. If you need to contact your professor there is a directory on our website with their phone number. We also have several more messages and resources to share with you.
While ELAC campuses and the Student Health Center are closed due to the pandemic, our community partner, Via Care Community Health Center, is providing telehealth medical and mental health appointments to ELAC students. Via Care is the organization providing on-campus medical and mental health services since Fall 2019. For a medical or mental health telehealth appointment, call 323-268-9191, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm; after hours, on-call doctor available. Mention that you are from ELAC. Spring health fee required.
Covered California Special Enrollment Period - California extended the Covered California Special Enrollment period in response to the coronavirus crisis and the impact it is having on our healthcare system. Effectively immediately, anyone who is uninsured and meets eligibility requirements for health care coverage through Covered California has until June 30, 2020 to sign up.
If you have general questions, just want to reach out, or need help connecting to resources for food, shelter, LGBTQ+, survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, etc., Live Chat is available on the ELAC Student Health Center webpage. Emergency Food Bank Locator – You just need to enter your address and resources for CalFresh, WIC, Senior Meals, and local food banks will pop open.
Housing – Evictions
Both the City of LA and the County of LA have imposed an eviction protection during the period of this crisis. See attachments. The ordinances prevent rent increases and evictions during this period. Although, it does not relieve tenants of obligation to pay rent. Tenants have up to 12 months from end of emergency to pay back rents. Landlords cannot charge late fees or interest fees.
Federal Tax Day Changed to July 15 - You may have an additional three months to file and pay your taxes. For questions about federal taxes, visit the Internal Revenue Service website. For details regarding state taxes and deadlines, visit the Franchise Tax Board website.
